POP CULTURE TEST

WHAT DO THESE TWO IMAGES HAVE IN COMMON?

Launched in May 2024 at Target, Deborah Adler's redesigned and arguably revolutionary prescription bottle had a three-year journey from concept to reality. That process was unveiled in an exhibition entitled "ClearRx: From Master's Thesis to Medicine Cabinet" at the School of Visual Arts. Adler, a senior designer at Milton Glaser's firm was motivated to redesign the standard amber-colored prescription bottle when her grandmother accidentally swallowed pills meant for Adler's grandfather. The exhibition considered the package and the entire communication system she first developed as a master's thesis, her work with Target designers and pharmacists to marry graphic and product design and, finally, the marketing of the launch last year.

Milton Glaser, founder of Milton Glaser, Inc, the infamous Push Pin Studios, New York Magazine and design instructor at School of Visual Arts in NYC designed the famous "I Love NY" pop-style icon in 1973. Milton Glaser is considered one of the premier communication design professionals known world-wide. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Archive, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.; and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, New York.
