VOLUNTEER CONTRIBUTOR STORY SINGING IN THE KEY OF GOOD HEALTH Laurie writes, “There is a tremendous need for low cost treatment alternatives and transitional living support.” Laurie combines her education, personal experience, and empathetic heart to inspire others to find inner harmony and grow within. Laurie believes, “Music touches us in a place where words alone cannot. Sometimes those with eating disorders are shut down to their emotions. Music can be a good tool to bring about feelings that were otherwise buried.” Harmony Grove is a 6-bed non-clinical supportive living house for women overcoming disordered eating. We work with women overcoming anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive eating, and all variations of eating disorders. It is a recovery based place to stay while learning new eating and self-care behaviours. With gentle supervision in a comforting and safe environment, individuals can gradually transition into the world while becoming grounded in their new eating and exercise programs. Clients will learn to handle all the temptations, social stresses, and food preparation challenges that come up in a normal day and they will have support while they learn. The program at Harmony Grove is designed for women of ages 18 and older who have a strong personal desire to permanently change their unhealthy relationship with food, weight, and body image. Harmony Grove currently provides the most affordable, non-clinical living house program in the country at $7,500.00 per month. When not managing Harmony Grove, Laurie inspires many through her message to find a life free from the obsession of food. Her anticipated second CD "I Wanna Live!" was released this past February. Laurie also combines her education, personal experience, soulful voice and powerful music in a unique inspirational presentation concerning eating disorders. She has performed nationwide at colleges and conferences. :::::::::::::: >>> Hillary Roberts is the founder of Project Linus NJ, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing handmade blankets and hand crafted toys to children suffering serious illness and trauma from birth to seventeen. "The first thing to keep in mind, is that your objective is not to make a 'TV show' or a 'show' of any kind. You are collecting evidence; you are encouraging witness; you are emboldening ordinary people to 'go public.'"
