The Gates, a critically acclaimed two week installation of the art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude was made of 7,500 gates, and 1,067,330 square feet of saffron colored flag-like material that surrounded Central Park in NYC. The Gates swathed visitors with its warm embrace over 28 miles of meandering footpaths, creating a visual golden river. One visitor summed it up as “mesmerizing” and “zen-like”. A wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience, whether you liked the concept or not. Jeanne-Claude died in 2009 leaving behind her legacy of projects co-developed with Christo.
